Rock School Exams

We’ve been here most weekends throughout July hosting some Rock School exam sessions and this morning we have another group in.

Apart from the early starts and late nights getting the studio ready, these days are always a pleasure.

Everyone who comes here for the day – pupils, parents, teachers and examiners are always friendly and excited about their exam – and often just a little bit nervous – mostly the parents!

First up this morning is Thomas – it’s his first exam and he’s quite nervous. He’s warming up now and sounding great! Whenever I sit in on these exams (and I know it’s the same for the other Hub guys), it reminds me that there’s a great pool of talented young musicians out there who will one day be in bands, playing their own music and hopefully rehearsing and recording here!

In fact, that’s given me an idea…

If Thomas is anything to go by, there’s a cracking little drummer in the making – so if any of our regular bands are in need of a drummer in about 11 years – let me know and I’ll see if he’s available!

Good luck again to everyone taking their exams today. You’ll do brilliantly I’m sure!

THE TEAM

Chris Pepper

Chris Pepper

Co-Founder / Engineer / Producer / Musician

Chris set the studio up alongside Bobby Ford in November 2010. Since then he has produced, engineered and played on many releases that have received local and national airplay and success. Graduating from The ACM in Guildford in 2007 (where he specialised in drum performance) Chris is also often called upon to record drums, percussion, bass, additional guitars and other quirky keyboards and instruments at his disposal (including the Omni-Chord, one of his faves).

Bobby Ford

Bobby Ford

Co-Founder / Bookings Manager / Musician

Graduating from King's College London with a degree in Music in 2009, Bobby worked in a number of small companies within marketing and administration roles as well as some project management. When Chris approached him, in early 2010, with the proposition of being involved in setting up a studio - he couldn't refuse! In that time he has been a bookkeeper, a photographer, a designer, a copy-writer, a keyboard player, a database administrator, a recruitment consultant, a spy and a pilot. (Not all at the studio/in real-life.)

Chris Bradbury

Chris Bradbury

Engineer / Producer / Team Member / Musician

After completing a course in music technology in 2008, Chris has had various jobs in the music industry, including working for PRISM Sound and PMC. A skilled guitarist, Chris performs with regular gigging outfit the 6Ts. Recent Production/Engineering credits include ‘The Free Kicks - Roy’ An unofficial World Cup song which is currently receiving lots of attention!

Mark Ellis

Mark Ellis

Songwriter / Team Member / Musician

Most know Mark from being the drummer in local band Hamfatter who famously secured investment from Peter Jones on the BBC's Dragon's Den. He is also a solo artist, who on the back of his recent charity single ‘Carry You’ performed at the Royal Albert Hall, London. Mark is a great friend to the studio and often lends himself as session musician.
